Plot
[edit]The film opens with some of the fishermen surrounding a gate post of Aabasaheb Hire (Madhukar Toradmal). Where it is written as Ladies are prohibited from entering. The ladies are advised to wait outside by the men. The men complain Aaba about Bhingrya, a bully fisherman regarding land grabbing. Aabasaheb orders them to leave and says he will look forward. He calls his sons Shivram (Shivaji Satam), Ramchandra (Ashok Saraf), Arjun (Raj Ketkar) and Ajit (Ajinkya Deo) for settlement of the matter. It is at this time Bhingrya was ordered by Anandibai (Padma Chavan) to do this. Aabasaheb comes to know that Anandibai has arranged her granddaughter's Sangeeta (Kavita Lad) marriage with home minister's son which could be problematic for Aabasaheb he orders Ramchandra to trick his PA cum Brother-in-law to call of the marriage and Aabasaheb succeeds in his move. Shivram comes to know that people in the town are saying that Aabasaheb has not done right by doing this. Now, in a flashback Years ago, Aabasaheb Hire lived a wealthy lifestyle in a small town in Kolhapur, Maharashtra along with his wife, and four sons. Shivram beling the oldest was of marriageable age and was to be be maaried to his bride (Asawari Joshi), Aabasaheb proceeded to arrange the marriage, however, Anandibai interrupted the marriage ceremony. During the marriage ceremony, she was questioned by Aaisaheb (Jayshree GadkarIn anger, Anandibai's husband shot his firearm at Shivram, but instead, Aaisaheb gets shot and killed. Anandibaii subsequently married her daughter to Balram (Sunil Shende). An enraged Aabasaheb hacked Anandibai's husband to death in the middle of the road and was arrested and sentenced to 14 years in prison. When he returned home, he declared that women will not be permitted in his property, posting a sign on the front gate, and forbidding his sons to ever marry.
In the present, Sangeeta (Kavita Lad), Anandibai's granddaughter, is in college with Ajit. Ajit further humiliates Sangeeta when she returns to college after her failed marriage. Anandi convinces Sangeeta to trick Jai into falling in love with her to cause a rift in the family. Ajit meets with Sangeeta who openly admits that she is attracted to him. Ajit, at first, rejects her, then decides to teach her and her family a lesson. Both feign their love for each other, but subsequently, Sangeeta and Ajit admit their agendas. Both go their separate ways, but find that they are indeed in love with each other. In order to marry, Ajit must first convince his elder brothers to get married, albeit in vain as none of them even want to consider this option.
Johny (Johnny Lever), Ajit's friend, finds out that Ramchandra, a seemingly celibate devotee of Lord Hanuman, is leading a dual life - he has been married to a woman, Lalita (Neena Kulkarni), a tutor for 11 years and has two children, a son, and a daughter. When Aabasaheb finds out he kicks Ramchandra and Ajit out of his house because Ajit supports Ramchandra's marriage.
Laxmi arranges for Anjali to marry her lawyer's son. After Ajit and Sangeeta acknowledge their love for each other to her family, Sangeeta's uncles approach Aabasaheb, asking him to help them stop Ajit from disrupting her upcoming arranged marriage. Ajit, Ramchandra, Lalita, and Johny sneak into the wedding venue with the help of Sangeeta's uncle Veeru (Avinash Kharshikar). Ajit dresses as the bridegroom and goes through the marriage rituals. However, at the end of the ceremony, Ajit reveals himself and tells his father he won't go through with the final steps of the wedding without his approval.
Shivram, who previously had supported his father's mentality the most, finally tells Ajit to place the wedding necklace around Sangeeta's neck, completing the wedding. Ajit is initially prevented from doing so, but eventually, he and Sangeeta are married. Sangeeta asks her grandmother to end the feud and Ajit asks his father for forgiveness. Aabasaheb leaves the wedding and contemplates all his sons' actions on the way home. All brothers and the two wives arrive at the gate. Aabasaheb looks at his sons and takes the sign off the gate and finally welcomes women back into his family.
