Endtime Signals is the upcoming thirteenth studio album by Swedish melodic death metal band Dark Tranquillity, set to be released on 16 August 2024 by Century Media Records. The album is the band's first to be released following the departure of guitarist Christopher Amott, bassist Anders Iwers, and longtime drummer Anders Jivarp.[5][6] Accordingly, it is the band's first album to feature new bassist Christian Jansson, and drummer Joakim Strandberg Nilsson, marking Dark Tranquillity's return to recording as a five-piece after the band's previous album, Moment was recorded as a six-piece.

Background

[edit]

On 13 August 2021, it was announced that bassist Anders Iwers and drummer Anders Jivarp had decided to leave Dark Tranquillity. In the band's announcement, vocalist Mikael Stanne wrote: "When removed from what you take for granted, it becomes clear that you realize what is truly important in life. And this is different for everybody."[7] Iwers would later reflect that the COVID-19 pandemic had helped him realise that he wished to spend more time with his family rather than continue to go on tour with the band.[6] The band subsequently replaced Iwers with Christian Jansson, who also played with Stanne in the band Grand Cadaver; Jivarp's position was taken over by Joakim Strandberg Nilsson, known for his role in the bands In Mourning and Wolves Within. This lineup would carry the band through the rest of their performances throughout 2022. On 23 July 2023, guitarist Christopher Amott announced his departure from the band due to a desire to pursue his own projects. As his departure took place in the middle of a run of festival shows, the band hired guitarist Joey Concepcion to fill in for the rest of the tour.[8]
