Welcome. I saw your new userbox, and regretfully, there are a few problems:
- Image:OA Distinguished Service Award arrowhead.png is marked as non-free, but is not actually used in the article Honors and awards of the Order of the Arrow
- If the image is non-free, we are not allowed to include it anywhere outside of an article; we cannot use it in userboxes. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Scouting/Userboxes, specifically the Standards section.
Please let me know if I can be of service here. YIS --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 10:17, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
- Help me understand. Here is my reasoning:
- Image:OA Distinguished Service Award arrowhead.png is derived (cropped) from Honors and awards of the Order of the Arrow. The "Non-free / fair use media rationale" for that source image states that "Permission to use all images of BSA badges with their motifs in Wikipedia was obtained from the BSA on 13 Dec 2005".
- That rationale would appear to cover use on any Wikipedia page, not just the article to which the image applies, such as userboxes.
- This would seem to supersede "non-free content policy 9" and provide adequate rationale. Am I wrong?
— Delmont43 Talk — 05:19, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Permission for use does not eliminate the copyright, copyrighted images are always non-free. Under WP rules, non-free images are allowed only in articles. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 10:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- So even though the copyright owner says "you have permission to use", WP rules say "you can't"? That seems odd. Is this just a procedural thing?
— Delmont43 Talk — 13:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)- On any other website, it would be no big deal. The WP powers that be imposed this policy because editors were using images in a lot of odd ways in non-article space. Another example: we cannot use non-free images in navboxes or as icons in articles. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 14:27, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

- In addition, you uploaded the image with a non-free rationale. The article parameter points to an article the image is not actually used in. Eventually a bot will catch this and mark the image as orphaned and it will be deleted. The best solution is to come up with a non-derived image. Perhaps combine Image:Order of the Arrow Member.svg with Image:Philmont.svg. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:41, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for that alternative. Let me consider some options.
— Delmont43 Talk — 13:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC) - OK. I think I'm in the clear now. Thanks for your help.
— Delmont43 Talk — 05:55, 30 January 2008 (UTC)- <headthunk>Ummm... forgot about Image:KnotDSA.png as it was decided that you really can't copyright a square knot. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 12:03, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:OA Distinguished Service Award arrowhead.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:OA Distinguished Service Award arrowhead.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 01:50, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

TEΦ Missing Chapters
[edit]Hello again! I'm currently working on the List of Tau Epsilon Phi chapters, which is currently the best consolidation of TEΦ chapter information on the internet (better than national HQ, though that isn't hard...). I am looking for help finding information on the Missing Chapters, and any help or information you can add to the discussion page or the article would be most appreciated! ref for NOAC 2015?
[edit]Where did you see that it was there and then for NOAC2015. I couldn't find anything on the National OA site.Naraht (talk) 00:10, 29 December 2012 (UTC)
- I'm ahead of the webmaster. It was announced at the National Planning Meeting. It now appears on the Highlights section of the OA page, but I doubt it will stay there. I'm waiting for a stable reference to be posted before citing.
— Delmont43 Talk — 00:42, 30 December 2012 (UTC)- I did revert an IP prior to you making the change, but I've seen it on the highlights section and agree with you that waiting for a stable location is best. If there isn't an APO booth at the 2015 NOAC, I will be *very* annoyed...Naraht (talk) 01:17, 30 December 2012 (UTC)
