WikiProject Software Announcement
[edit]- Software Wikia is a wiki specialised on software using semantic extras. If a nice article does not have the required Wikipedia:Notability, simply export it and ask an admin for an import there.
- WikiProject Free Software is now merged with WikiProject Software. The link to WikiProject Free Software is Wikipedia:WikiProject Software/Free Software.
- To better serve Wikipedia, WikiProject Malware is now under the parent of WikiProject Computer Security. All Malware articles are currently being transferred over to the new project. In any case, you are welcome to join at WikiProject Computer Security!
- All members of WikiProject Software are urged to install the Centralized Announcement System on their talk page.
- I have changed the participant (members) table by replacing the Task column with Area of Expertise. I also introduced a new template based status system so as to "arrange" the members according to whether they are active, semi-active, inactive, or retired. Please update your entry accordingly.
- New IRC server! The old channel on Freenode is not used anymore. See See here. Manual for using IRC can be found here for why. Find us at:

WikiProject Software to do list
[edit]- The following topics are missing an article; calling all enthusiasts to start these articles urgently. [Read the Talk page]
- Gordian Knot (software), AutoGK, a bit obsolete, but still worth an article, or two (see also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BeSweet)
- Topaz Labs (software), photo editing software in the same vein as Photoshop or NIK software. The company has expanded and is used by many various fine art and photography professionals. www.topazlabs.com. Deserves an article.
- (please feel free to add more)
- The following articles need some updating and cleanup (please feel free to add more):
- BlueSpice for MediaWiki
- Cabri Geometry, article too short but of significant importance
- Defraggler
- EmEditor, needs notability references, and general improvements
- Ext4
- Flowtracer
- Google File System, tagged with {{Expert-subject|Software|date=November 2008}}
- Home Assistant (seems to be consensus that this needs cleanup from uninvolved editors after its 2nd AfD, as of 2021-04-02)
- Hypervisor, the PCs and desktop systems section needs attention
- Jv16 powertools [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
- KVIrc
- Light (web browser), just created, it's decently written but still really short, and it's not part of this project yet
- mdadm, mostly non-encyclopedic content (HOWTO/manual)
- Micro Transport Protocol, widely used since uTorrent 2.0 released
- Ntfsprogs
- Norton 360
- Recuva
- Presentation Manager, requesting screenshot of GUI, also needs references
- Program Information File
- Software as a service
- Windows library files
- XNUMBERS
- Zamzar
- Zero Install, a bit confusing article, needs to be explained more clearly
- Autodesk Media and Entertainment, major content deletion happened for cleanup on 17 March 2008 (11,000K to 2,000K), and now it's so outdated & stub-like it needs a total rebuild
- List of web application frameworks, go through the articles of listed frameworks and nominate for deletion the non-notable ones, clean the list from non-notable ones, clean Template:Application frameworks
- Aviary (application suite) Needs major updating, referencing, and clean up.
- Scrumban article reads like a sales brochure and I don't have the subject knowledge to fix it.
- The following page lists articles that need expert attention from WikiProject Software and have been tagged by {{Expert-subject|Software}}:

[edit]HAHA! you must have no life if all you do is go online to wikipedia and ruin people's fun. when was the last time you made out with anyone? oh yeah, i forgot, NEVER! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.106.197.104 (talk • contribs)
Wikipedia is not the place to insult people. Even though this is a talk page, that gives you no right to insult users. Grow up. Ginbot86 (talk) 03:01, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
It's a friend trying to help another friend. This is NPOV. Saying something 'sucks' is not good, it's colorful NPOV language. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.212.176.10 (talk) 19:36, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
You gave my page a bad review...I worked hard on it!!
[edit]My page: Irvington Middle School is a very notable school, many of my classmates plan on adding to the page. Even if you, someone who knows nothing about this school, thinks that the page isn't important, who cares, it is my page and some people like to see their school on wikipedia for fun. Maybe I think a page you made is irrevlevent and unimportant but you don't see me ruining people's hard work... all i did was make a page for my friends and i to enjoy and be able to say we had a wikipedia page, that is our fun and we sure don't think it is irrelevent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rawbacon (talk • contribs)
- The reason that I nominated this page for deletion was because it is non-notable. By looking at the AFD right now, it seems that the page will be merged into Irvington, New York#Education. However, it is not, in my opinion, notable enough to justify its own article. If you disagree, you can always add your comments to the AFD. — Wenli (reply here) 01:48, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- My page is notable...i GUARANTEE it gets more views than some of the pages you have created, like the one on Ethel Portnoy, not to be mean, but a lot more people care about this school than a dutch, unheard-of writer. The page will be back... whether you like it or not... -Rawbacon
My RfA
[edit]Hi Wenli; I wanted to say thank you for supporting my request for adminship, which passed with 100 supports, 0 opposes and 1 neutral. I wanted to get round everybody individually, even though it's considered by some to be spam (which... I suppose it is! but anyway. :)). It means a lot to me that the community has placed its trust in my ability to use the extra buttons, and I only hope I can live up to its expectations. If you need anything, or notice something that bothers you, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks again, PeterSymonds | talk 22:24, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
RfA thanks!
[edit]RfA: Many thanks | ||
Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. I am impressed by the amount of thought that goes into people's contribution to the RfA process, and humbled that so many have chosen to trust me with this new responsibility. I step into this new role cautiously, but will do my very best to live up to your kind words and expectations, and to further the project of the encyclopedia. Again, thank you. --jbmurray (talk • contribs) 05:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC) |

[edit]Why did you vote for my site to be deleted? You give no reason other than to site the nom's reasons, which I have rebutted. Please read the rebuttle and respond fully and appropriately. lsiryan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.233.93.191 (talk) 23:40, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. I understand that you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, but please don't strike out other people's comments on the AFD. Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Thank you. — Wenli (reply here) 04:09, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Are you going to ever give any reason for voting for deletion? I doubt it. Please stop harassing me and my entries. If you cannot offer something constructive, then please offer nothing. It will be better for all of us who rely on Wikipedia. Thank you. lsiryan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.233.93.191 (talk) 20:48, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not harassing "your entries" in any way. In fact, you're the one who struck out my comments, calling them "unprofessional and not necessary". I have my right to my opinion, and you have yours. In any case, AFD is not a vote, so if an administrator feels that you're right, he/she will keep the article. — Wenli (reply here) 00:25, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
What is your agenda? Clearly my post regarding Google was correct. I have now had to AGAIN correct your post. Will you please STOP harassing me and my entries? It is really a shame that I have to devote my energy to vandals.... lsiryan 18:44, 24 May 2008 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.233.93.191 (talk)
- Please stop the personal attacks. I'm merely stating what I have found out. Calling me a "vandal" and a "troublemaker" simply because I disagree with you really doesn't help anyone. I did not vandalize any page. — Wenli (reply here) 00:30, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

- Thank you for your support
I would like to thank the community for placing their trust in me during my recent request for adminship, which passed 72 13 2 . Rest assured, I have read each comment thoroughly and will be addressing the various concerns raised as I step cautiously into my new role as janitor. In particular, I would like to thank Balloonman for putting so much time into reviewing my contributions and writing such a thoughtful nomination statement after knowing me for only a brief period of time (and for convincing me that I was ready to take up the mop now, rather than go through admin coaching).
To my fellow admins - please let me know right away if I ever take any mis-steps with my new tools. Should I make a mistake, and you reverse the action, I will not consider it to be wheel-warring (but please tell me so I can understand what I did wrong).
To everyone - please feel free to slap me around a bit if I ever lose sight of the core philosophy of Wikipedia as I understand it - the advancement of knowledge through the processes of mutual understanding and respect. As always, feel free to drop by my talk page if I can be of any assistance. =)
Sincerely,
~xenocidic, 01:04, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

- You seem to have a funny definition of 'not getting into a dispute' if you add this to WP:ANI.- (User) WolfKeeper (Talk) 23:30, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- This user certainly didn't break 3RR. There needs to be 4 reverts in a 24 hour period for a 3rr breach. While edit 3 looks on the surface to be a 3rd revert (it's not though), there's no way edit 4 can be seen as reverting... -- Mark Chovain 00:40, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

In need of mentorship
[edit]Hi,
I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.
I need the advice of an experienced Wikipedian.
I'm currently coordinating development of Wikipedia's Outline of knowledge, which has grown to around 500 pages, and I am having trouble recruiting editors to help build and improve it. I need some mentorship here.
I also need advice on the guideline draft I've been writing for the Outline of Knowledge at User:The Transhumanist/Outline of knowledge. Is it good enough? Did I miss anything important?
My latest effort to recruit help on the outlines is a proposal for a contest between all of the country WikiProjects on Wikipedia (about 200 of them). Each country has an outline devoted to it, and so I figured these outlines fall within the scope of the corresponding WikiProjects. This will be a very big event, and I'm not sure I'm going about it in the best way.
So you see, I've taken on a lot, and I need as much advice as I can get.
Sincerely,
The Transhumanist 20:05, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
(P.S.: I look forward to your reply on my talk page).
Proposed deletion of Toe wrestling
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Toe wrestling, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- Looks like something made up in school one day. No indication of notability or reliable sources.
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Message regarding your use of the No Multi License Template
[edit]In case you are not aware, the Wikimedia Foundation has proposed that the copyright licensing terms on the wikis operated by the WMF – including Wikipedia – be changed to include the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC-BY-SA) license in addition to the current GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) as allowed by version 1.3 of the GFDL. The community has approved this change with 75.8% in favor, and on June 15, 2009, the change will take effect.
You currently have {{NoMultiLicense}} on your user or user talk page, which states that your edits are licensed under the GFDL only. On or before June 15, this template will be changed to reflect Wikipedia's new licensing terms. If you accept the licensing change, you do not need to do anything (and feel free to remove this message); if you do not accept it, we regret that you will no longer be able to contribute to the encyclopedia. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template if you have any comments.

Orphaned non-free media (File:Process Explorer v10.21 Screenshot.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Process Explorer v10.21 Screenshot.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:49, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
