[edit]

Good to see you pop in, old friend. Hopefully we can see more of you around here, your presence has been sorely missed. --Al Ameer (talk) 17:55, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Keefak ya Ameer? :) I am well. Just got a bit eaten up by work, moving to another continent and changing my profession. But I am always lurking around (I stalk your page because that's where the most interesting stuff seems to happen), and I'm always amazed by the work you're doing here. I hope to contribute a bit more now, but we'll see. It's great to hear from you Ameer. Yazan (talk) 20:27, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Incidentally, I just finished reading this book, and there's a large chapter on Al-Makzun al-Sinjari a very important poet/military leader in the history of Alawites, and I am very surprised that there's no article on him here. Perhaps that's something we can work on (slowly). Yazan (talk) 20:49, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Glad to hear things are ok. I really look forward to collaborating on articles again. As for al-Makzun, I'll see what I can find and we can get a draft page going. Salaamat y'akhi, --Al Ameer (talk) 21:21, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. I created a draft here. Take a look at this book as well, seems to have a detailed biography on him too. Ebook here. Yazan (talk) 22:26, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You're impressive Ameer! We have an article :) I just added a few more details from Winter. I changed the birth date of Makzun to Winter's date (it corroborated better with the Arabic sources I found), and amended the place of death as well. I also added a legacy section.Yazan (talk) 21:50, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It was a pleasure, always glad to learn something new about our history. And good work yourself. You should nominate it for DYK if you feel it's ready to be moved. I'll try to expand it further within the next two days. I think there should be more info about his theological/scholarly contributions to the Alawite faith and about his poetry. Cheers, --Al Ameer (talk) 05:02, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll sleep on it for a day or two for now. It still needs a more suitable lede, and perhaps some c/e. But for now, take a look at this book. Will be very useful if we want to get back into that white whale. ;) Yazan (talk) 21:04, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for this! I've been waiting for your return to restart that project ;) As for al-Makzun, I planned on editing the article more today, but might have to push that till tomorrow or the day after. In any case, the lead will be easy. --Al Ameer (talk) 21:18, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Al Ameer son:, I moved the article to main space, here. I did a QPQ here, feel free to nominate now :). It's always a pleasure working with you. P.S. I moved the Umayyad Mosque article to draft here, so we can work on it slowly. Yazan (talk) 10:39, 17 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Yazan, unless I'm mistaken, after all the new DYK rules, the nominator has to do his own QPQ, meaning only you'd be able to use your review. Thus, you should probably make the DYK nomination, and as far as hooks are concerned, I'd think "... al-Makzun al-Sinjari is 'perhaps the most prominent individual in Alawite history'" would be the most suitable, or perhaps an ALT hook about how he came from Sinjar to relieve the Alawites of the Latakia mountains after many were killed celebrating Nowruz, or something along those lines. --Al Ameer (talk) 18:16, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
 Done - Template:Did you know nominations/Al-Makzun al-Sinjari. Yazan (talk) 20:57, 20 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Al-Makzun al-Sinjari

[edit]

On 2 February 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Al-Makzun al-Sinjari, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that al-Makzun al-Sinjari is "perhaps the most prominent individual in Alawite history"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Al-Makzun al-Sinjari. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Al-Makzun al-Sinjari), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

March Madness 2017

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. A tag has been placed on Category:Syrian Television requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". File permission problem with File:2010 Arab League summit logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:2010 Arab League summit logo.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
