This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Alaska. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Alaska|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Alaska. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to US.

Not a valid dab page. None of the other entries (two other gold rushes in Alaska and a TV series titled Gold Rush: Alaska) qualifies. Clarityfiend (talk) 11:25, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

- Keep (slightly hesitantly, as from the wrong side of the pond): the other two gold rushes were both in Alaska and could reasonably be known by that name - see "Alaska Gold Rush: Topics in Chronicling America" from Library of Congress which includes Nome and Fairbanks. - Keep. Although I expect younger North American readers will be so used to fake news that they will assume that the Alaska Gold Rush was not in Alaska, and older readers will have been taught this at an early age, for people like me (as for PamD, America is a foreign country for me) it is surprising (even astonishing) to be taken to Canada. But thanks to the nominator for leading me to this fascinating article (and for significantly contributing to it). All I had known previously was from Charlie Chaplin's film. Before we delete this disambiguation page we should decide what to do for people who want to learn about some particular gold rush in or around Alaska. I think a disambiguation page is exactly what is needed. Thincat (talk) 12:51, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Delete. The nom is right. Deal with any ambiguity (Nome Gold Rush and Fairbanks Gold Rush with a hatnote. Shhhnotsoloud (talk) 08:30, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Keep for navigational purposes. It's entirely logical that somebody (especially somebody just learning about the subject) might type in "Alaska Gold Rush" and be looking for any of the three gold rushes. But there's also a 1972 book called The Alaska Gold Rush by David Wharton that I've found 5 different newspaper reviews for. Two of are a bit short, but the others are long enough for an WP:GNG pass. I'll write a stub on it tomorrow and add it to the dab page. There's another The Alaska Gold Rush book by May McNeer. I haven't checked for notability, but it could likely be created as a redirect to her page and would be worthy of mentioning in the current dab page. @Clarityfiend:, does my discovery help allay the concerns you have with the page in its current form? And @Shhhnotsoloud:, with this new information, does this change your mind about a hatnote being the best decision? GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 10:39, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Reply. No. That only makes two legit entries, so a redirect hatnote will suffice. Gold rushes that happen to take place in Alaska simply don't qualify IMO. See for example Spanish River. Does it list rivers in Spain? No. Also, now that I think of it, the other two would be Alaskan gold rushes. Clarityfiend (talk) 10:57, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, if it helps, Wharton's book is about the Alaska Gold Rush in Fairbanks - but in the title of the book, he very stubbornly calls it the Alaska Gold Rush. So we've got a full length book, plus a dozen or so reviews/blurbs, all calling the Fairbanks Gold Rush the Alaska Gold Rush. They didn't even have the decency to call it the Alaskan Gold Rush, no matter how much more logical that would be. But all that aside, does the existence of a full-length non-fiction book using the name change your opinion? GreenLipstickLesbian (talk) 11:22, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
