Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Transportation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Transportation. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Transportation|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Transportation. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Per WP:GNG and WP:EVENTCRIT: Other than databases, there exists no reliable secondary sources (significant) coverage of the event, no in-depth coverage, no (sustained) continued coverage, no demonstrated lasting effects nor long-term impacts on a significant region of the world that would make this event notable enough for a stand-alone article. • Does his MB qualify him for The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor? Cremastra (uc) 23:17, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not really, no. It's not nothing, but it's not highly mega-notable enough to render him permanently notable in the absence of sustained WP:GNG-worthy coverage in reliable sources. Bearcat (talk) 22:07, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - per WP:ANYBIO "The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor". He was awarded both a Carnegie Medal for heroism and a Canadian Medal of Bravery. — Maile (talk) 02:54, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Maile66 an award alone does not confer notability. Per WP:N - (in reference to notability guidelines including WP:ANYBIO): People are likely to be notable if they meet any of the following standards… meeting one or more does not guarantee that a subject should be includedMaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 06:26, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. Awards don't make people notable enough for encyclopedia articles if your source for the award is the award's own self-published website about itself — that's a primary source, not a GNG-building one, and that wipes out two of the three footnotes here. The key to making him permanently notable on this basis would require coverage about him in third party sources unaffiliated with the statement — namely media coverage and/or books — and just one hit of that isn't enough all by itself. A car that was never built. Does not seem capable of sustaining an article. Sourcing is just a bunch of "this car is coming" news articles which are substantially similar (and show up any time any car is announced), and then the cancellation. • It's a horrific thing to contemplate that a road accident killing 55 anywhere in the world wouldn't be notable. We've got little to go on, there are news reports but little ongoing coverage. That said, I don't read Arabic, it seems likely that there would be sustained non-English coverage. I'm going to say unsure in that I would hope that there was more than I'm seeing. JMWt (talk) 09:53, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete(Revised vote) – Borderline in my opinion. I've found some "detailed" coverage dating back to 2008 plus one in 2013, however, the lack of actual sustained continued coverage post-2009, and the lack of demonstrable lasting effects are enough for me to vote delete, albeit a weak one. As WP:EVENTCRIT#4 says, routine kinds of news events including most accidents – whether or not tragic or widely reported at the time – are usually not notable unless something further gives them additional enduring significance, which this event also lacks. • Draftify: The article obviously needs some work, but could meet criteria if sufficiently sourced and expanded. SirBrahms (talk) 07:26, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Just out of interest, what work would you suggest (or, indeed, perform yourself)? Did you look at any available sources or evaluate the current sourcing of the article? Would you recommend any sources to add to it? And if so, what sources would you recommend for consideration? Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 17:11, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep As said above by @SirBrahms Article does need some work, but 55 fatalities is notable and should stay as an article even if there are no reliable or good sources. I'm sure this article could be saved and increased to a good grade if we put in some work. @Thebiguglyalien Lolzer3k 17:09, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
AS per my comment above, what 'work' would you put in to increase this article to a 'good grade'??? Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 17:13, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Source retrieval and expansion. This article is a WP:STUB that cites no sources. there is indefinetly atleast one or many sources that could help enlarge this article. @Alexandermcnabb Lolzer3k 17:48, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The quality of sourcing for a single event with no enduring influence does not address WP:LASTING "An event that is a precedent or catalyst for something else of lasting significance is likely to be notable." and therefore we have a report of a single incident which is where we fail WP:NOTNEWS.
