This WikiProject is believed to be inactive. Consider looking for related projects for help or ask at the Teahouse.
If you are not currently a project participant and wish to help you may still participate in the project. This status should be changed if collaborative activity resumes. |
Welcome to WikiProject Leaflets. Several Wikipedians have formed this collaboration resource and group dedicated to improving Wikipedia's archive of leaflets created for various Wikiprojects and Wikimedia Projects. These leaflets were displayed at Wikimania 2014 to help recruit volunteers for these projects.
Goals
[edit]Project Leaflets are here to help you recruit volunteers for your project by making it more discoverable. These leaflets can be printed at large events such as Wikimania, where they showcase the breadth of activity within Wikimedia.
This is particularly aimed at highlighting less discoverable but successful projects, e.g.:
- Active Wikiprojects: Wikiproject Medicine, WikiProject Video Games, Wikiproject Film
- Tech projects/Tools, which may be looking for either users or developers.
- Less known major projects: Wikinews, Wikidata, Wikivoyage, etc.
- Wiki Loves Parliaments, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves ____
- Wikimedia thematic organisations, Wikiwomen’s Collaborative, The Signpost

Project name | WikiProject Globalization |
Short Description | Imagine a world in which the forces of globalization were well-known and explanation and documentation of those forces were available to everyone. That is the sweeping vision of WikiProject Globalization. Globalizing processes weave through every aspect of our lives and everyone in the world has something at stake. |
Longer description | WikiProject Globalization's scope spans the entire globe. That's why we need your help! The project was created in June 2012 by a diverse group of editors interested in the many dimensions and effects of globalization. We currently cultivate 263 articles, covering topics related to economic globalization, global business organization, the global workforce, sociocultural globalization, the global natural environment, and more.
Because globalization reaches into every realm of our lives, new and experienced Wikipedians alike are sure to find project articles or entire topic areas that fit their interests. There are more than a few areas in which we need further expertise: anthropology, business, climate science, earth science, economics, epidemiology, global public health, history, international trade, international finance, international relations, sociology, and world sports. Experienced translators, copy editors, and grammarians are always welcome. We also regularly have calls for graphics and illustrations for articles. Please visit Portal:Globalization today! |

Systemic Bias Kit
[edit]Your contact details | keilanawikigmail.com |
Project name | Writing Diversity Back Into Wikipedia |
Short Description | Wikipedia's systemic bias against women, non-Western people, people of color, non-Anglophone topics, and other marginalized groups is well known. Use this kit to learn how to create a sustainable series of workshops to combat this problem, one editor and one article at a time. |
Longer description | Representation for these groups is important because Wikipedia is for everyone - not only white, cisgendered, heterosexual males from an Anglophone Western country. With this kit you can learn how to gather a small, effective group of participants and teach them the skills they need to write articles! The model of one-off edit-a-thons or workshops is unsustainable, but with social advertising, repeat workshops (at least once a month) and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, high editor retention rates are completely possible. This kit contains everything you need to run a workshop. Just add Wikipedians! |

Wikipedia Art and Feminism
[edit]Your contact details | User:OR drohowa,User:Theredproject, |
Project name | Wikipedia Art+Feminism |
Short Description | In a 2010 survey, Wikimedia found that less than 13% of its contributors were female. The practical effect of this disparity is that content is skewed and many articles on notable women in history and art are absent on Wikipedia. |
Longer description | Wikipedia's gender imbalance is well documented. The ArtAndFeminism project exists to rectify this by creating Wikipedia articles on women and the arts and attracting new women editors to Wikipedia. In February, 2014, More than 30 satellite events were organized in Australia, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States, with a central location at Eyebeam in Manhattan. The campaign attracted an estimated 600 participants, resulting in more than 100 new Wikipedia articles and 100 expanded articles focused on women and the arts, and had substantial local, national, and international press coverage. The project organizers, based in New York, continue to provide event hosting support and resources for any interested party and encourage others to host ArtAndFeminism events. |

Project name | Wikiwomen's Collaborative |
Short Description | Wikiwomen's Collaborative is an online initiative that seeks to engage and inspire women to edit Wikipedia, Commons, and related projects through outreach events, calls for action, social media campaigns and peer-to-peer support. |
Longer description | The WikiWomen's Collaborative is a community project created by women around the world who edit Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects and want to encourage others to do the same. At last count, the Wikimedia Foundation found that only 9% of Wikipedians are women. Wikiwomen's Collaborative aims to create a social movement to encourage those who are already active Wikimedians to continue to deepen their participation, inspire others to do the same, and make it easy for more women to successfully help share their portion of the sum of all the world's knowledge. Inspired by the women's movement of the 21st century, we hope that by creating dedicated places online to share our projects and support one another, we can engage more women to contribute to Wikipedia. |

Wiki loves Parliaments
[edit]Your contact details | Olaf Kosinsky |
Project name | Wiki loves Parliaments |
Short Description | Already successfully implemented in German and Austria, Wiki loves Parliaments is a project in which photographers and Wikipedians gather in government buildings to photograph officials and create Wikipedia pages for them. A second aim of the group is to promote a positive image of the Wikimedia movement in government. |
Longer description | Since 2009 Wikipedians have been visiting German and Austrian State Parliaments to take photographs of their members. They have been made available under a free license on Wikimedia Commons. They can be used in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects but also outside of Wikipedia - in compliance with the license conditions - for example by the Members of Parliament themselves.
17 such projects have been organised to date with thousands of pictures having been taken. After being discussed in the conference of German State Parliament directors, every parliament invited Wikipedia to visit and we have recently begun to take video statements from officials. We would like to continue with this success and spread our activity to other countries. Short Description | Wikipedia needs new high quality editors to join the community - Snuggle helps you find and support the best new editors. |
Longer description | Snuggle is a browser-based newcomer observation and support system. Snuggle is designed to allow Wikipedian mentors to observe the activities of recently registered editors and identify high quality new editors who are in need of help. This tool was designed in response to recent research that shows that the decline in newcomer retention in Wikipedia is the result of an increasingly negative environment for desirable newcomers and that Wikipedia's current socialization systems don't work because mentors don't find newcomers when they most need help. Wikivoyage
[edit]Your contact details | voy:User:LtPowers |
Project name | Wikivoyage |
Short Description | For travellers, by travellers: a multilingual, web-based project working to create a free, complete, up-to-date, and reliable worldwide travel guide. |
Longer description | Wikivoyage was founded in the spirit of sharing knowledge... the same spirit that makes travel so enjoyable. Whenever travellers meet each other on the road, they swap info about the places they came from and ask questions about places they're going.
We want to make it easy to share that knowledge and let others share it; our copyleft license means that the facts you know can spread far and wide. Unlike traditional travel guide books, where everything is copyrighted and based on a single person's one-time visit, Wikivoyage is entirely open content and constantly updated with new information. All you need is Internet access to write and make changes to Wikivoyage articles, even (or especially) while you're travelling! Wikivoyage's largest language projects are English, German, and French, but we have 13 other languages, too. You can help them grow and become the go-to source for travel information for the world! |

Wikispecies
[edit]Your contact details | species:User:OhanaUnited |
Project name | Wikispecies |
Short Description | Wikispecies is an open, wiki-based species directory and central database of taxonomy. It covers living and fossil representatives of Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Bacteria, Archaea, Protista and all other forms of life.
Wikispecies is free because life is in the public domain! |
Longer description | Biologists who classify new species normally publish in specialized journals, leading to an overwhelming amount of information being recorded without oversight. Even experts in very specialized fields often don't notice if a species has been formally recorded multiple times.
Therefore, it is not known how many species are known—and this is just as ridiculous as it sounds. Nobody knows because there is no central registration process and no database or reference directory to browse information about the current state of knowledge on a particular species. This situation can be summarized with the statement: A central, extensive database for taxonomy is urgently needed. Wikispecies exists to solve this problem by creating a browsable, taxonomically classified library of links to publications for all living and fossil species on Earth. We are different from other similar projects in that we can be edited by anyone, allowing errors to be quickly fixed. |

Astronomical objects
[edit]Your contact details | w:en:User talk:StringTheory11 |
Project name | WikiProject Astronomical objects |
Short Description | This project aims to create, verify, and maintain coverage related to astronomical objects on Wikipedia. |
Longer description | The main purpose of this project is to make sure that Wikipedia's coverage of astronomical objects is accurate, verifiable, thorough, complete, and concise.
Throughout Wikipedia's history, coverage of astronomical objects has been light with many important objects such as 10 Lacertae having only stubs for articles and a few very important objects, such as 59 Serpentis, having no articles at all. Often undue weight is given to unestablished or unconfirmed discoveries. The purpose of this project is to make sure that articles on any sort of astronomical object follow the basic Wikipedia guidelines as well as in-project guidelines such as the notability policy and the naming conventions and to make sure that articles are as complete and accurate as possible. Longer description | The U.S. Roads WikiProject (USRD) is the largest project devoted to roads on the English Wikipedia. We also maintain portals that serve as entry points for readers interested in highways and roads. It is our goal to be the foremost Internet resource for highways located in the United States. We currently have 63 featured articles, five featured lists, and four files considered featured media. In addition, we have four featured topics and three featured portals. Our project also maintains a presence on Commons, Wikisource, we create KML files, maps and other graphics, and a quarterly newsletter, The Center Line. USRD also works with its sister projects for countries like Australia and Canada to conduce A-Class Reviews as part of WikiProject Highways. |

WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration
[edit]Your contact details | w:en:User talk:Oncenawhile, w:en:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration |
Project name | WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration |
Short Description | In a subject plagued by conflicting historical narratives, we have the opportunity to make wikipedia the conflict's most balanced reference point. Help us build bridges and break down barriers in the world's most intractable conflict. |
Longer description | Known as the "world's most intractable conflict", much of the fighting has been over historical narratives. The two side's histories hardly intertwine and respected scholars and journalists often disagree, presenting great challenges to wikipedia editors.
As the world's primary open source publication on the topic, our encyclopaedia has the opportunity to become the subject's most balanced reference point, with a truly bilateral narrative. We would encourage anyone with an interest in the Middle East and a passion for neutrality to help. We can't guarantee that noone will bite; long memories, deeply ingrained passions and a Mediterranean climate mean things can get hotheaded. But we promise that a persistent focus on clarity, neutrality and verifiability will leave contributors with the satisfaction of helping remove barriers between two peoples fact by fact, one at a time, perhaps equivalent to a "truth and reconciliation commission". Help us build a single encyclopaedic narrative, and mutual understanding and trust. |

Wikimedia Language Engineering
[edit]Your contact details | Runa Bhattacharjee @arrbee |
Project name | Wikimedia Language Engineering |
Short Description | The Wikimedia Language Engineering team, an integral part of Wikimedia Foundation's Engineering department, is working to ensure that all people across the world have good access to Wikipedia regardless of their language and platform. The team’s mission is to build language features and tools to support wiki communities across the world. |
Longer description | Wikimedia websites are available in more than 300 languages (287 Wikipedias). The best multilingual user experience should allow users to read and edit wiki pages in all these languages without discrimination. To make this a reality, Wikimedia’s Language Engineering team is on a mission to support all languages in the Wikimedia universe with tools and extensions to overcome constraints caused by devices, operating systems or web-browsers - particularly complex scripts that are in nascent stages of internationalization or are limited due to inconsistent support across platforms.
Using the UniversalLanguageSelector feature, input methods and web fonts are provided on Wikimedia websites to read and edit wiki pages without requiring any additional capabilities on the user’s device. Coming up soon is also a Wikipedia content translation tool that can be used to create new articles from existing articles in other languages. Visit the Language Portal to learn more about our projects. |

WikiProject Sports Photo
[edit]Your contact details | Pierre-Yves Beaudouin |
Project name | WikiProject Sports Photo |
Short Description | Already successfully implemented in few French speaking countries, WikiProject Sports Photo is a project in which photographers take high quality sport photos. |
Longer description | Since 2011 Wikipedians have been attending sports events in France, Quebec and Switzerland to take photographs. They have been made available under a free license on Wikimedia Commons. They can be used in Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects but also outside of Wikipedia (in compliance with the license conditions).
By 2013, 60 events and 27 sports had been photographed. Generally, we go through the same accreditation process that professional photographers. We also have a sports accreditation partnership with Amaury Sport Organisation, one of the main sporting events organisers in France. We'd like to spread our activity to non-francophone countries and would be happy to share our knowledge with photographers and other Wikimedia chapters. Please get in touch if you'd like to help! |
