Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *jakams, inherited from Proto-Finno-Ugric *jakka- (“(to) go, get to”). Cognate with Hungarian iktat (“to authorize; register”).

   якамс мекев-васов ― jakams mekev-vasov ― to walk back and forth

   • 1910, Makar Evsevievich Evseviev, Gospoda nashego Iisusa Hrista Svjatoe Evangelie ot Matfeja, Marka, Luki i Ioanna na mordovskom jazyke‎^[1], page 246:

     Теде мейле Іисус якась Галилеява. Ведь Сонзэ Іудеява арасель мельзэ якамс: Іудейтьне вешнесть Сонзэ маштомонзо.

     Teďe mejľe Iisus jakaś Gaľiľejava. Veď Sonze Iuďejava araśeľ meľze jakams : Iuďejťńe vešńeśť Sonze maštomonzo.

     After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
