From Middle Persian *sḵbʾk' (/⁠*sikbāg⁠/) (whence Persian سکبا (sekbâ)), a compound of [script needed] (sḵ /⁠sik⁠/, vinegar) + *bʾk' (/⁠bāg⁠/, soup) equivalent to Persian سک (sek, vinegar) + با (, soup)).
