Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *grabʰ-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrebʰ-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬡 (garəβ, “to seize”), English grab (a borrowing from another Germanic language), and Proto-Slavic *gràbiti (“to grab, seize”).
