From Ottoman Turkish بیروت (beyrût), from Arabic بَيْرُوت (bayrūt), ultimately from Phoenician 𐤁𐤓𐤕 (brt /⁠bērūt⁠/), from Proto-West Semitic *biʾrāt- (wells). Doublet of Berytus and Beeroth.
