[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *pl̥h₂meh₂ (“palm, hand”), from *pleh₂- (“flat”). Cognate with Latin palma, Proto-Germanic *fulmō, Ancient Greek παλάμη (palámē, “palm of the hand”).
