prefix- +‎ -suffix

For use in the Etymology sections of words which consist of only a prefix and a suffix, or which were formed by simultaneous application of a prefix and a suffix to another element.

This template essentially combines the functions of {{prefix}} and {{suffix}}, using the “con-” prefix to show both characteristics are combined. The first element is treated as a prefix, whereas the last element is treated as a suffix; an entry in which this template is transcluded will be added automatically to those affixes’ derivation categories.

Examples

For example, the derivations of neurogenic and bedewed can be written:

  1. {{confix|en|neuro|genic}}
  2. {{confix|en|be|dew|ed}}

Which generates:

  1. neuro- +‎ -genic
  2. be- +‎ dew +‎ -ed

Note this is not the same as

{{confix|en|neuro|gen|ic}}
Which generates:
neuro- +‎ gen +‎ -ic since gen does not have a meaning tied to gene but rather links to generation

In contrast, {{compound}} adds the entry in which it is used to categories of the form "[Language name] compounds". It is intended for true compounds where neither the first nor the second term are affixes.
