Cyrillic entries

An interesting situation has come up since an anonymous user has started making entries in Russian. Although the software that we inherited from Wikipedia automatically capitalizes the first letter in an English title, it certainly does not do this with Cyrillic script titles. Many of us have raised concerns about automatic capitalization, but there have been no changes in the software. I have always preferred an optimistic approach, and have always used the lower case when making links. The biggest argument by the proponents of the present software has been in regards to using capitals when a sentence starts with a linked word.

For now I would suggest that we adopt the view that all Cyrillic word article titles start with a lower case letter unless there is a specific rule that requires a capital letter. This could be extended to other languages (such as Armenian) where the script distinguishes between upper and lower case. Eclecticology 19:18, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)

So, the current software capitalizes articles written in roman alphabet but can't do it for russian, hu ? I don't seee where is the problem. It's the english wiktionary so russian is just here to give translations of words, not to write whole sentences. I can't see any reason to have a common noun capitalized. Peer review?

I'm new, so please take it easy on me if this is a stupid question (or it's being asked on the wrong page), but at Wikipedia, there is a page to request peer reviews. Is there something like that here? I just made my first contribution, Arrogant, and I wondered to know if anyone had pointers/corrections/tips/dirty looks for me. Hi Next Paige, welcome to Wiktionary.

You are indeed asking your question on the right page, and it's far from stupid. As far as I am aware, Wiktionary does not have a peer-review system, in the same way that there are many other features of Wikipedia that Wiktionary does not (yet) have. The reviewing is done by users who visit pages and revise them, just as happens on Wikipedia.

How does peer review work on Wikipedia? No doubt it is useful - do you think something similar could work here effectively here?

In the meantime, one way of "advertising" your page to ensure it gets read by others it to include it on the main page (the Wiktionary home page) under the "New Entries" section. -- Paul G 17:16, 19 Feb 2004 (UTC)
