[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Latin vīgintī. Originally contracted to a nearly pan-Romance *vintī, which yielded *yintsi, the initial syllable yi- was seemingly duplicated into yiyints (note the initial stress). The form yinghits arose by metathesis of the -n-.
