From New Latin (genus name) from Russian дзе́льква (dzélʹkva, tree, wood), from Georgian ძელქვა (ʒelkva), from Old Georgian ძელქვაჲ (ʒelkvay), from ძელი (ʒeli, beam) + ქვაჲ (kvay, stone).
