The Ancient Ruins are a recurring location in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2]

Features and Overview

Link's Awakening

The Ancient Ruins are an area containing the Ancient Ruins Dungeon. They feature Sandy terrain, with the Sand covering a decorated stone path on the ground. Cracked stone walls and broken columns make navigating the area complicated as the path cannot be followed. Many Armos statues are situated among the Ruins, though approaching some of the statues reveal them to in fact be living enemies.

The region can only be accessed from the Shrine Waterfall region to the north-east. To the south of the region is Animal Village and the Yarna Desert, but they are blocked off by cliffs and cannot be accessed from the Ancient Ruins.

A set of Stairs leading underground can be found by moving one of the Armos statues. A Secret Seashell can be found here, which is replaced with 20 Rupees if the Koholint Sword has already been obtained.

The Ancient Ruins are located below the Deku Tree in the Eternal Forest. They house the Triforce. Only those sanctioned by the Golden Goddesses may enter the Ruins, which can be accessed from a stone elevator situated in front of the Deku Tree.

After Zelda receives Din's Sanction, Nayru's Sanction, and Farore's Sanction, Null creates a dark Echo imposter of her known as Tekom. Tekom successfully masquerades as Zelda, fooling General Wright and the Deku Tree into letting it enter the Ancient Ruins unimpeded. The Deku Tree assures Zelda that the Goddesses will not be deceived, and he allows Zelda and Tri to enter the Ruins. Inside the main chamber of the Ruins, they find that Tekom has already ascended the altar and summoned the Triforce. Tekom attempts to claim its power, but the Goddesses detect the ruse and split the Triforce into three pieces. A piece remains with Tekom, while another is imparted to Zelda. The final piece creates a golden Rift and floats away through it. Tekom senses that the piece will be claimed by Link, so she enters the Rift to seek him. Before departing, Tekom promises to deal with Zelda later so that she may assemble the complete Triforce.

Zelda and Tri follow Tekom through the Rift and enter the Stilled Ancient Ruins, an area of the Still World made up of elements from across all of the different regions of Hyrule. Zelda may pass through the Rift at any time to travel between the two worlds.
