Dubious Food is a recurring Meal in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2][3]

Location and Uses

Breath of the Wild

Dubious Food can be made from several different Cooking combinations:

  • Monster Parts on their own
  • Critters on their own
  • Any recipe that would produce an Elixir without an effect (e.g. monster part + Chilly critter + Spicy critter)
  • Seasonings without Food

Dubious Food is noted to be too gross to look at and permeates a bizarre smell.[1] However, it can restore a random amount of Link's Hearts depending on the ingredients used.

Moza, who can be found near Ishto Soh Shrine, will give Link three recipes, two of which result in Dubious Food. One is her ancient meat dish, which involves cooking meat with a part from a Guardian.[4] When Link calls this gross, she'll scold him, saying the only way to cook meat is something with history.[5] She asks Link how else she's supposed to make her ancient meat dish.[6] However, Moza admits to Link that her only results have been Dubious Food.[7]

For her other dish, the ultimate survival dish, Moza tells Link to defeat monsters and to put their parts in a Cooking Pot.[8] This time, if Link calls her recipe gross, she'll say that you have to be willing to eat anything to survive in the wild.[9] Though she always ends up with Dubious Food, she asserts she won't achieve her goal unless she makes some sacrifices.[10] She also admits to Link that she's not sure what's so dubious about using Monster Parts.[11]

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

The recipe for Dubious Food is earned by completing the Quest "Extreme Survival Cuisine". It is made using two Hearty Durians, two Rock Salts, and two Hot-Footed Frogs. However, it can be lowered to one of each ingredient through the completion of "Hungry Hunches". When prepared before a Challenge or Scenario, the Warriors will gain twice as many Rupees, including those earned after the mission, but they will have 20% less total Hearts.
