Diacrylates or dimethacrylates, which are compatible with water before exposure to actinic radiation, but which form hard, insoluble coatings which are resistant to organic solvents and water after such exposure, are prepared by adding epoxide groups in a pre-extended group of the formula wherein R 4 is a divalent (cyclo) aliphatic or araliphatic radical and R 15 is in each case an alkyl group or in pairs a group of the formula (̵CH 2 ) 2 - -C (R 16 R 17 ) CO-, -CH 2 CH (CH 3 ) - , (̵CH 2 ) ̵ 3 or (̵CO) ̵ 2 , where R 16 and R "each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or together a cycloaliphatic ring, and c is zero or 1, containing diepoxy resin with (meth) acrylic acid or a dicarboxylic acid and a hydroxyl-containing (meth) acrylate. |
