titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to cooling media for use in heat interchange systems |
abstract | 508,437. Cooling liquids preventing corrosion. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.-GES. Aug. 9, 1938, No. 23507. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1937. [Class 29] [Also in Group XVIII] A cooling medium for internal-combustion engines and for heat exchange systems generally consists of an aqueous solution of one or more neutral alkali metal fluorides, of a concentration of at least 10 per cent by weight of fluoride, with the addition of an alkali metal silicate or chromate of between 0À1 and 5 per cent by weight of the fluoride in the solution, to lessen corrosion. An alternative cooling medium comprises an aqueous solution of a fluoride of about 10 per cent concentration and a nionohydric alcohol up to 50 per cent by volume of the solution, with or without the addition of the silicate or chromate as above. |
