abstract A polarizing plate having excellent durability against heat and humidity is provided. [Solution] A polarizing element film obtained by treating a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin film with a solution containing at least a buffer agent such as sodium acetate and further an inorganic acid such as aluminum sulfate or a salt thereof and / or an organic acid is used. A polarizing plate produced using this polarizing element film has excellent durability with little change in transmittance and degree of polarization even when left for a long time in a high temperature or high temperature and high humidity atmosphere. An image display device using this polarizing plate, particularly a liquid crystal display, can suppress a reduction in the visibility of a display image due to deterioration of the polarizing plate, and can display an image stably for a long period of time.
