For example, the present invention relates to factors that modulate the activity of tim-1, tim-2 or tim-4 or the physical interaction between tim-1 and tim-4 or between tim-2 and tim-2 ligands. It relates to a method of modulating an immune response in a subject by administering to the subject an agent that modulates an action. Immune responses include, but are not limited to, autoimmune disorders, transplantation tolerance, and Th1-mediated responses and disorders and Th2-mediated responses and disorders. The present invention also relates to a novel assay for identifying factors that modulate the physical interaction between tim-1 and tim-4. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a novel soluble tim-4 polypeptide and a nucleic acid encoding the same. |
