abstract An improved dry-operative ion-selective electrode for the determination of sodium ions in aqueous fluids includes a dried internal reference electrode, a dried reference layer and a sodium ion-selective membrane composed of a binder material. The reference layer contains a metal salt and a hydrophilic binder material, and is buffered to a pH of from about 4 to about 8 with a water-soluble, organic dicarboxylic acid. This electrode can be manufactured with significantly less waste and exhibits improved uniformity in performance.
