abstract The present invention relates to a material for covering an electrochemical device, including at least one constituent layer, and particularly, to a material for covering an electrochemical device, including a constituent ingredient forming the abovementioned covering material constituent layer, a coating ingredient, or a constituent ingredient and a coating ingredient that contain a fire retardant material and heat-resistant material, such that the covering material has improved safety, and to an electrochemical device including the covering material. The material for covering an electrochemical device containing the fire retardant material and heat-resistant material, and the electrochemical device including the covering material of the present invention, are capable of withstanding heat or flammable materials, and cannot be ignited so as to have favorable fire retardant and heat-resistant properties, so as to significantly improve upon the safety problems identified with lithium secondary cells of the prior art.
