From Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia.
Cascoon (Japanese: マユルド Mayuld) is a Bug-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.
It evolves from Wurmple with a corresponding hidden personality value starting at level 7, and evolves into Dustox starting at level 10. It is the parallel of Silcoon, Wurmple's other evolved form.
Biology
Cascoon is a round, cocoon-like Pokémon. It is covered in purple silk, except for two holes where its red eyes are visible. The soft silk hardens into a tough cocoon that is able to endure attacks, and Cascoon will not move even when it is attacked. However, it never forgets the pain it endures and seeks revenge upon Evolution.
It lives in forests, where it hides underneath large leaves and inside the gaps of tree branches. Additionally, it camouflages itself by attaching dead leaves to its body. As its cells create energy for Evolution, the inside of the cocoon becomes hot. Cracks start to form in its casing when Evolution is near. Cascoon's silk is said to be thin yet strong, with a luster and texture superior to the silk from its counterpart Silcoon. Cascoon's silk is used to make high-quality clothing.
Evolution
Cascoon evolves from Wurmple and evolves into Dustox.

Main series
Major appearances
Jessie's Wurmple evolved into a Cascoon in A Corphish out of Water, which also marked the species' debut. However, Jessie thought Cascoon was a Silcoon. As a result, James and Meowth were left worried about Jessie's rage when Cascoon evolved into Dustox. Fortunately, Jessie was ultimately not disappointed when Cascoon did indeed evolve into Dustox.
Other
In Best Friend...Worst Nightmare!, Goh's three Wurmple all evolved into Cascoon. They reappeared in A Snow Day for Searching!. In Panic in the Park!, they all evolved into Dustox. The Wurmple reappeared in a flashback in Getting More Than You Battled For!.
Minor appearances
A Coordinator's Cascoon appeared in Hi Ho Silver Wind!.
In Serving Up the Flute Cup!, Goh fantasized about a Cascoon while revealing the three Wurmple he caught could evolve into them.
In Trade, Borrow, and Steal!, a Cascoon was part of Kricketina Kylie's Bug-type Pokémon collection, as shown in her Rotom Phone.

Trivia
Cascoon's design differences in the anime.
- Cascoon shares its category with Metapod, Kakuna, and Silcoon. They are all known as the Cocoon Pokémon.
- They also share the same base stat total, learnset, Ability, and EV yield.
- This ties them as the evolved Pokémon with the lowest base stat total.
- Cascoon and Silcoon have exactly the same type, base stats, moveset, and shape, making them nearly identical.
- Cascoon, along with Silcoon, is depicted without the limb protrusions on its body in the animated series, all core series games since Pokémon X and Y onward, and occasionally in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
- However, James's Pokémon trivia cards showed that Silcoon and Cascoon indeed have those limbs.
- Cascoon is the only Bug-type cocoon-based Pokémon whose Defense stat does not decrease upon Evolution.
- Cascoon is the only Pokémon found in a Friend Safari that is not its own type; it is found in the Poison-type Friend Safari even though Cascoon is pure Bug. However, it evolves into the Poison-type Dustox.
Origin
Cascoon seems to be based on a moth cocoon.
Name origin
Cascoon may be a combination of cask (a container), cast (a shell used to immobilize body parts), cáscara (Spanish for shell), and cocoon.
Mayuld may be a combination of 繭 mayu (cocoon) and shield.
