Ornitin je aminokiselina koja se formira u ciklusu ureje putem odvajanja ureje od arginina. On se javlja u centralnom delu tog ciklusa i omogućava uklanjanje suvišnog azota. L-Ornitin je prekurzor citrulina i arginina.[5][6]
