Talk:Amaterasu (Ōkami)
Shiranui
[edit]To be very clear, this page is about the player character of Amaterasu in the form of the white wolf, aka Okami Amaterasu. That's how she's presented in Okami and in MvC3. While it is the case that in the 100 yrs-prior battle that Amaterasu inhabited the wolf known as Shiranui, that is not the same character for the purposes of either game, it was another mortal wolf temporarily posseses by Amaterasu. As such, we need to avoid the confusion of trying to call them the same character, as they are not. --MASEM (t) 01:22, 26 July 2013 (UTC)
GOCE Copy Edit request
[edit]The Request
[edit]From "Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests#Amaterasu (Ōkami)":
A fresh pair of eyes would be nice. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 22:21, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
Hi, Gabriel:
Would you please clarify "a fresh pair of eyes" for me? I have two basic approaches to a copy edit:
- I make minor changes directly to the article and list lots of other suggestions here on the "Talk" page. For example, if I thought a sentence should be deleted because it is vague and unimportant, I would list it on the "Talk" page;
- I make more changes directly to the article and, consequently, list fewer suggestions here on the "Talk" page. For example, if I thought a sentence should be deleted because it is vague and unimportant, I would delete it.
Which do you prefer?
--LukasMatt (talk) 02:58, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- @LukasMatt: The second option is fine with me. If we disagree on something we can discuss here. And, it will only occur if you do something unaccountable. With a good rationale and the credit I give to GoCE members it'll hardly happen. Cheers, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 21:14, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
Infobox
[edit]No suggestions
Lead section
[edit]- Used the "lead=yes" parameter twice because Amaterasu is written in katakana and Ōkami Amaterasu is written in kanji. If you only want "Japanese:" to appear on the first occurrence, then the kanji characters must be enclosed in {{nowrap}}.
- Replaced #tag:ref with {{refn}}
the magic word #tag:ref is valid, but the sequence of parameters is invariant and nonintuitive. {{refn}} and its variants use this markup internally
- "nonintuitive"–it's difficult to find documentation on #tag:ref; it's easy to find documentation on {{refn}}

Appearances
[edit]Suggestions for major rewrite of "Appearances" section
| ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Characteristics[edit]According to "Wikipedia:WikiProject Fictional characters/Style guide", the next section in the article should be entitled "Concept and creation". For an excellent example, see "Mario#Concept and creation". If insufficient material exists for a "Concept and creation" section, then the Style guide allows a "Characteristics" section. Important notes:
Appearances[edit]Again according to "Wikipedia:WikiProject Fictional characters/Style guide":
The current "Amaterasu (Ōkami)#Appearances" section is primarily biography / fictional history. However, Amaterasu has appeared in multiple games. My Recomendation[edit]I would replace the current "Amaterasu (Ōkami)#Appearances" section with the following structure:
Two final, general recommendations:
What next?[edit]Obviously, I am suggesting a major rewrite of the "Appearances" section. Therefore, I will not give it a detailed copy edit. Tomorrow, I will copy edit the "Reception" section. |
--LukasMatt (talk) 16:48, 24 May 2014 (UTC)
Hm... I was only looking for a grammar/orthographic/syntactic review. I never played the game, and I'm not that familiar with it, so I have no intention to rewrite it completely. The "Appearances" just includes standard information in many vg characters (e.g GAs Cloud Strife, Tali'Zorah). There's no need to a subsection for MvC3 because there's few info. It would be nice to add more content, and if you can do so it'd great, but I'm not intend to go for it. Gabriel Yuji (talk) 02:36, 25 May 2014 (UTC)
Reception
[edit]Suggestions for "Reception" section
|
---|
The lead section informed readers that the article would discuss reception in the order "positive reception from both video game publications and fans...top Capcom characters, best canine characters in games, and greatest video game protagonists overall", so the "Reception" section has been organized accordingly. 1st paragraph (well received by critics and fans alike)[edit]Removed
2nd paragraph (top Capcom characters)[edit]Removed
Last paragraph (accolades)[edit]Deleted because the quote is not in the source

Okamiden
[edit]In Okamiden it is described that Amaterasu is the mother of Chibiterasu. 198.217.64.131 (talk) 21:42, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
RE: Article notability
[edit]@Kung Fu Man: I added some sources to the article, but in addition to that, the mention in 100 Greatest Video Game Characters is fairly major, going indepth on the character for several pages. I'm fairly sure the character is notable now, in spite of the trivial sources that are in the article. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 00:39, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: The problem with the book is that it often tends to focus more on giving a blow by blow of the game than any analysis of the character: yeah she's mentioned on three pages, but not much can be gleamed from it, even a preview shows that. I still feel it's a bit lacking, but I'm not going to force it through AfD or whatnot, maybe we just need to come back to it later with a fresh look.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 02:37, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
