To say that this book f#cked with my emotions would be putting it lightly! With characters that I loved one minute then wanted to murder in the next... I actually don't know how I made it through this book. For the life of me I still don't think I have these characters figured out, they were in such constant turmoil I found it impossible!
"You think God can help you? No, Laura, God can't help you. I may be a monster but I'm the only one who can help you right now."
Let's start from the beginning. Laura is a recluse when she accepts an invitation to go out and have some fun with a friend, it really is out of the norm behaviour for her. But she goes and there she notices Kayne watching her, there's obviously something different about him. Unlike all the other men leering at her, she finds herself intrigued and attracted to him.
Let's move along swiftly to where the real story starts and Laura discovers that Kayne is not who he says he is. Kayne is part of The Organization, the Russian Mafia. His job was to bring her in for interrogation about her brother who happens to have stolen some very important information from them. Ultimately whether she gave the information they needed or not her life would be forfeit. So Kayne takes her in as unwilling guest in his home. Laura is given an insiders glimpse into the dark and sadistic life Kayne leads.
"Are you going to kill me?" she blurted, out, surprised at her own bluntness. He stared at her right in the eye, his voice betraying no emotion. "Only if you make me...But don't worry, I won't let you."
At first Laura is just a challenge for Kayne, one of the many women he will ultimately break. But as time goes by he finds himself feeling just a little more for her than just carnal lust. She feeds his darkest desires yet she also brings out the good that there is in him. If there is such a thing.
He wanted to get inside her head, to turn her against herself, to hear her utter the words Yes, Master. He wanted to break her apart so he could put her back together again, over and over again.
Kayne and Laura's relationship was a constant tug of war. With Laura trying to resist her inevitable submission to Kayne's seduction. She tried fighting that side of her that enjoyed being at his mercy by using the side of her that realised the entire situation was just plain wrong.
So I've read my fair share of Dark books, but there are situations that aren't necessarily dark but they are my hard limit. So saying this book took me out of my element is pretty accurate. I never thought I'd see the day where I understood why Kayne did some of the things he did. I don't want to spoil but I have to put it out there. (view spoiler)[Blatant cheating! I was inconsolable! (hide spoiler)]
I'll fight for you. I'll kill for you. You're mine. Always. Wherever you go. I'll find you. Always. There's nothing I wouldn't do for you."
I will say that this is not a normal romance... Of course. But it's also not dark in the way you might expect. It's more of an emotional beating like someone pounding your feels with a hammer. There is angst, scads of it. Don't expect a conventional ending.
The more he took from her, the more power she held over him. His little white lamb, who willingly penetrated the lion's den, for him. He would slaughter them all for her, would paint the world read and lay it's carcass at her feet.

So I've been very busy lately mainly with work but yesterday morning I said good morning to Feifei like I always do and one of the first things she said to me was, "I think you'll like this other book I just finished."
So immediately I was all ears because believe it or not, Feifei rarely says this to me! So I was all over it!
And this is my face when I finished the prologue:

Nine Minutes, is written like an autobiography and for the most of the book I actually thought it was because it honestly felt like the author was telling me about her life and experiences. The heroine is 15 years old when she's taken and this isn't one of those glamourised kidnapped books where the villain waits until the girl is legal before he has his way with her. Grizz was a hard man, brutal and cruel but when it came to Ginny he became a different man. But only for her.
What happened in this book was messed up, the characters were even more messed up but I ate that shit up! I think part of the allure was the writing, from the first page you kind of know how it's all going to end but not quite.
Okay I'm gonna stop babbling. FULL REVIEW TO COME.
So if you're looking for something different then you should definitely try this book! Now about that happy ending, in my opinion this book has a happy ending. But for a more thorough review, you should check Feife's review out though :D https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now on the off chance this first bit sounds negative trust me, I'm not trying to be negative I'm just "covering 4 Who's The Prisoner Now Stars!
Now on the off chance this first bit sounds negative trust me, I'm not trying to be negative I'm just "covering my arse".
Now before you read this book you'll need to know a few things.
1. If you haven't read Wanderlust by Skye Warren then you should, because while this book isn't exactly the same it does follow along the same grain. 2. Insta-love. Beware. 3. Non-con some would argue and say it was slight reluctance, I'm just gonna warn you it's not completely consensual at times. 4. Alpha males (wait that's not a bad thing!) 5. This book was rather fast paced and not always in a good way.
And that's all the slightly negative stuff I will say about this book. Now if you read that top bit you're probably thinking. "Ooooh this is gonna be so dark!" And I would tell you to hold your horses, while it is dark it isn't overly dark. It still tugs at those heartstrings and the hero is completely redeemable.
I feel like this book was tailor made for me. The whole falling for a prison inmate this is quite intriguing and of course there's the captive and captor dynamic but the best part is probably the chase. Abigail Winslow, is a bookworm, she's the epitome of a snooty librarian. As part of her uni project she has to give a English/Writing class at a prison which is where she meets Grayson. All it takes is one look and Abigail knows that Grayson would be very dangerous to the mask she's always held in place, the one that keeps people from seeing her less than savoury past and upbringing. And for Grayson, Abigail is a temptation, he's a man who hasn't had a woman in four years, but for some reason Abigails allure goes further than that. He has this deep need to turn her world upside down, to keep her innocence and that prim and proper exterior for himself.
Okay so without going to deeply into the actual plot, because quite honestly it's best not to read any reviews before reading this book. The book takes taboo/fantasy, now when I say fantasy I don't mean elves and leprechauns I mean your deepest darkest desires, stuff that you would never want to happen in real life but still fantasise about. If you're not into dubious consent or slight reluctance or whatever, then stay very far away from this book, but if this is your type of read then go for it! The hero is not a good man, but he feels so much for the heroine that you're willing to forgive him.

Maybe a normal guy would be moved by the sight of her red-rimmed eyes. I'm not normal, though. The sight of her broken doesn't make me want to help her. It makes me want to fuck her all over again....more

That freaking cliffy! My mind is working overtime trying to imagine what Jude has discovered.
Now firstly unlike Volume One, this installment takes a darker and morose turn, I'm really worried about Jude. He's trying to fight his dark urges and Detective Donovan Blake is desperate to find and expose the Cascades Killer by any means possible. Even if he has to bait him and risk even more lives being lost. Jude is torn between wanting to kill Ronnie and wanting to protect her from his dark urges.
"You don't know what? I asked and pulled her hands behind her back. "You don't know if you want my cock inside of you? Do you feel guilty for wanting it so bad? For wanting to fuck a killer?"
Once again the story has multiple POV's from the following characters. 1. Jude 2. Donovan Blake 3. Ronnie and a new character 4. Patty Wilson
Now I spent almost half this book trying to figure out Patty Wilson's relevance to the story. I went from thinking her POV was flashbacks, but by the end of the story her relevance was revealed and I couldn't decide whether or not I liked her. Okay so you're probably wondering why the half star in my rating, yes? Well I missed the dark humour that was in the first installment. Understandably this book was psychologically darker, and Jude is becoming more desperate, the poor sod is trying to change... But I missed his screwed up sense of funny.
So delicate and so fragile. So easy to crush if I gave in, just fuck i and let the red heat rise. But I didn't. I fight and I fall. Even farther in love.
Volume Two ends with a dramatic flair, and I know as a reader the next book is going to blow me away with secrets and revelations.
"the moment of death was my aphrodisiac, not the corpse, not the after effect.

He painted his face into some kind of terrifying skeleton, his eyes blackened completely, with no white whatsoever. Even though I knew they had to be some kind of contact lenses, they still held a permanent place in my nightmares. And yet, in the flesh he seemed a lot more human. That could have been because he was bleeding profusely, though.

Cute, funny and oddly dark. That's how I'd describe Equal Parts by Emma Winters. Going into this book, I knew to expect something different, a buddy of mine over here had already read it and after reading her stellar review I knew I had to have a go at it too. While it is a New Adult novel, Equal Parts lacked the intense smuttiness that I've become used to in most NA books. I'm not saying there wasn't any sexual tension and swoon worthy moments but that isn't what made the story.
The world Felicity/Flick lives in is much like our own, except that it is made up of mainly two different groups. The superheroes and the supervillains, Felicity is neither. She's a superneutral, she has the power to draw happiness from the people around her and then transfer it to those that need it the most.
I wasn't a superhero. I wasn't a supervillain, either. I was a superneutral. No bias, no taking sides. In the human world, I was Switzerland. No one provoked me, and I provoked no one in return. Just the way I liked it.
So while leaving the hospital she volunteers at one night, she happens to bump into none other than, Achilles, a supervillain. Out of all the supervillains in Carova, Achilles is the most dangerous and most feared. He's hurt and he demands that Felicity help him. Felicity has three options: 1. She helps him, and then he goes after her for her power. 2. She refuses and he kills her for it. 3. She makes a run for it, and hopes he dies before he can catch up to her.
She chooses to help him, and in turn he helps her. A shocking incident (view spoiler)[Achilles gets shot by the police (hide spoiler)], has her helping him again. And her worst nightmare comes true, Achilles kidnaps her and tries to find out how her power works.
"You were intimidating!" I protested. "I've never had a thing for homicidal charmers before. "But now you do?" "Apparently," I muttered, knowing he could feel my racing heartbeat under his chest. "Well, if it helps, I've never had a thing for beautiful, deceptively brave, innocent charmers before."
Of course, Felicity is only half unwilling. Both she and Achilles are hiding something. Felicity ran away from the pain of loss and Achilles became a villain because he wanted fame while keeping his real identity a secret. But Felicity being in his life, kind of shows him that's there's more to life than the living the life of a criminal.
"Don't get too much of an ego, but you're kind of my everything.
I'm not sure what else to say, besides that if you're looking for something a lot different. With really unique characters that you can relate to minus the sex, then this is your book. FYI, they do actually do the rough and tumble. Twice.
"Achilles?" "Yeah?" He sounded on the brink of sleep, same as me. "Are we a thing now?" Another throaty chuckle, "We were always a thing, darling. Just took both of us a while to see it."

There are so many reasons why this book worked for me, I'm so deliriously happy right now... I can't even!!!
Here's a little info on the book if you're interested:
Serial is the collaboration and project of two authors, Lily White and Jaden Wilkes. This is not the first book I've read from either author so you can imagine my elation when I heard they were doing a project together. With Lily White's trademark brilliance at writing deeply dark characters and gruesome gore scenes and Jaden Wilkes wonderful prose when it comes to dark humour, I was prepared for awesomeness. And awesome is what I got.
Serial is a novella told in the first person, from three points of view.
1. Jude (serial killer) 2. Donovan Black (detective) 3. Ronnie (heroine/love interest)
Serial is a about a serial killer by the name of Jude.(I love it when authors give their characters biblical names, makes the story that much darker for some reason)
*Jude is a successful businessman, who grew up in a healthy environment, with a loving family. But he has a dark secret or craving that is. Jude lives for the kill, there's something about the exhilarating feeling he gets when he watches his victim breath their last breath.
I can't help it, I truly can't. I've researched addiction, Googled the fuck out of everything from, "How do I stop killing" to "Frontal lobotomy results sociopath" when the going gets tough.
"I've never felt quite all there, but not in a bad way. It's not that I hear voices or get messages through radio transmissions. I've always felt smugly superior somehow.
*Donovan, is the detective working on the case of the Cascades Killer. He's just as intriguing as Jude and I hope we can get more insight into this character. He's meticulous in his investigation and is hell bent on stopping the serial killer. He's character is dark, and seems jaded. I think he may be just as fucked up as Jude is.
My balls puller tight as her screams increased and just as I shot my cum inside her, I looked up at the task board and into the lifeless eyes of a monster's victims.
*Ronnie, is a waitress at a diner that Jude has begun frequenting. She's obviously attracted to the man. She's broken and been kicked while she was down a lot. Her character is ready for the plucking.
The lock on the door clicked again and his entrance meant night had fallen. How long would I get to keep him to myself this time?
A quote from Christine while she was reading this book

So I'm not a connoisseur of biker romances, but I'd like to imagine that I know my way around Dark romance or And it's LIVE!!! AMAZON
3.5 Stars!
So I'm not a connoisseur of biker romances, but I'd like to imagine that I know my way around Dark romance or just plain Dark fiction (not really). Which is why I jumped at the chance to read Hard Roads by Lily White since I would basically read her grocery list!
Hard Roads, is a dark MC Novel, that is heavily plot based, although there are a liberal number of hot, smexy scenes for those who enjoy their smut (like me). But again it focuses on plot, these aren't your neighbourly Motorcycle Clubs that do a toy run every year to raise money for the orphans. They're rough and they don't take shit from anyone, blowing someones brains out for looking at them funny is part of their daily regiment. These guys will shoot you, just to make sure their guns are in working condition.
Holly is a club brat, her father is the club President. She lives and breathes the life, she's a tough as nails woman who doesn't roll over for any man. Until her father's carelessness puts her right smack in the middle of danger. She's kidnapped for all intents and purposes, and this isn't the type of book where the heroine is "kidnapped" and then placed in a room filled with silks and high thread count sheets.
So for about 40% of the book I felt a bit disconnected with the characters, and for some reason the book didn't feel dark enough. I felt the story was running around in circles, and I was a bit frustrated. But that quickly ended with the introduction of a character who shall not be named.
I started off indifferent to JD's character but by 50%, I finally understood him, therefore I started feeling what he was feeling. JD's character is a bit of a mystery in the beginning to me, so I didn't know if he was good or bad. This frustrated me because I wanted to immediately place him in a category. His character had so many sides, and by the end of the book I really appreciated it.
Like all Lily White books, this one had the trademark gore scenes which I've come to love. Her writing is graphic, she doesn't hold back, I wonder how she thinks up all the stuff that happens in her books! (view spoiler)[FUCK! The biker who got his face ripped of by his own bike! I can see it in my head! (hide spoiler)]
I loved the compound OMG (view spoiler)[Diablo's territory (hide spoiler)] The atmosphere was chilling. The people who were there were either checked out human beings, or completely sick and twisted! (view spoiler)[When Holly remembers how the guards raped her in the dead bikers blood. (hide spoiler)]
On the whole I thoroughly enjoyed this book, Lily White never disappoints!
We can't hate on the pain and tragedy that form our lives, because it might be what's needed to lead us to our destiny. People meet and become acquainted in the events and turmoil that shape us into who were meant to become. But most importantly, I would tell any person that would listen that in the end, it doesn't matter how our paths intersect, because when it comes down to the basic truth of our lives... ...we're all stuck traveling down hard roads.

What I expected when I started reading this book: 1. A captive story, main character falls in love with her captor/tormentor. 2.Violence, rape, torture. 3. Steam
Did I get that? Yes.
Accept the pain. Fear the agony.
I've read my fair share of dark reads, and The Decimation of Mae can compete with the best of them. From the very first page, I could tell I was going to like this story. Mae Swift, lost her parents and sister when she was very young, and to cope she began cutting, she also uses drugs, she met Daniel when she was eighteen. Once. One night, one experience that still haunts her.
Fast forward five years and Mae is taken, she's to be sold but before that she'll need training. A process that entails, breaking her down, she'll learn that her wants and needs no longer matter, the only thing she can think of is what her Master wants from her.
That is what made him so powerful; not the pain he could cause my body, but the agony he brought to my soul.
It's funny how you think you'll react when being raped. I'm not sure how other people saw it but I always imagined I'd scream and cry and fight, but in the moment that a man took away my soul, I felt nothing.
Although very dark, this is also a very sad story. Mae, has been beaten and broken down by her past and present. Every day of her existence is a struggle and her only reprieve is when she cuts. She was actually quite a strong and resilient character, she never gave up.
Daniel's character is cruel, sadistic and he feeds off Mae's pain. He enjoyed it when she fought him, he's very much a villain and he's capable of and has done the most horrible things. Everyday that Mae is in his hands is a fight for her life.
Fuck his mind games and his attempts to take my sanity. It would never belong to him, I would never let go of it for him. I was me. I was Mae fucking Swift, daughter of Madeline Swift and Graham Swift, and sister of the strongest heart that had ever graced this God damned diseased planet.
I'll warn you, yes this is a dark story but it's quite an emotional one too. Yes it's not a love story but it is a story of love, the characters are not perfect. Mae, lives in a warped reality and her actions and reactions reflect that. This is not the darkest book I've read but I thoroughly enjoyed so I would definitely recommend it. It's not a mind-fuck but there are twists.
So why not five stars? I'm anal about continuity in a book, lol!
(view spoiler)[Since there is a lot of torture in this book, the heroine is injured each time. I feel that if your character is going to get whipped or beaten etc. Things like healing time and scarring should be taken into account. Cracked ribs take awhile to heal and severe whippings can lead to internal bleeding, and even if these injuries are seen to they will still leave scars. So the characters need to remember having these scars and aches at all times. I've noticed this in a lot of books I've read recently, so I've become more lenient... (hide spoiler)]

"Brave, stupid little girl, you can't even begin to imagine all the things I'm going to do to you.
I have one request. I ask that before you start reading this book you have a look at my shelves, that's my one and only warning. If you're a fan of Francette's work like I am. Then you'll know that when you start one her books, you should expect a few things.
1. Angst (more like angst fest) 2. Drama (Family drama to be exact) 3. Tortured main characters (and I mean torture yo) 4. You're going to have to find that zen place inside of you and try to stay there throughout the book.
Now that I've got that out of the way, I should mention that this book is probably the darkest that Francette has ever written. So maybe you'll understand why I was a bit thrown when I started it. I've read darker but this book was pretty dark, and Knox was pretty cold in the beginning.
"Every time you fight me, I want to rip into you...I want to reach inside you and tear you apart."
Okay so I haven't actually finished writing my review for this book yet. It's not an easy book to review, not because it was bad but because it[image]
Okay so I haven't actually finished writing my review for this book yet. It's not an easy book to review, not because it was bad but because it was so complex and had so many dimensions to it. Whenever you read a book by Lily White, you can always expect something completely different and she did it again with Her Master's Teacher.
It's Dark Erotica, but it's not as simple as that. It's so much more than just dark, the dark genre has grown so much and as a reader I've started taking how dark a book can be for granted. The more gruesome the more shocking has always been what gets me going. But after reading a great deal of books from this genre, it started becoming mundane. The story would become lost behind a bunch of shock factor tactics and by the end of it you don't have a story you have a bunch of shocking scenes.
Now don't get me wrong, this is not for the faint of heart, trust me. Her Master's Teacher is a dark book but Lily took Dark fiction, erotica, angst, drama , romance and mystery and gave us what every reader is looking for when they choose a book to read. Entertainment. It's all here people.
Are you looking for a Dark read? Well then, here you go! But you'd better prepare yourself for way more than that!
*************************************************
Let me say that this book this book is vastly different from Her Master's Courtesan, apart from the fact that it brings two new characters, Holland and Claire, there's so much more. The scenario itself is a taboo and dark lovers wet dream. We have a younger lead male character and an older lead female character, this made for a very interesting read.
Holland, is a man's man, he's arrogant, a charmer, intelligent and he has the looks to go with it. But right under that outer shell is a man who is much more sinister, more seductive, he isn't afraid to use the same things that has every woman swooning to trap and ensnare the one woman who has caught his particular interest, Claire, who also happens to be his psychology professor.
Physically, Holland Strong was built for seduction. Mentally, however, he was without morality or humanity. He was a monster disguised by pretty wrapping. A man who would take what he wanted and cause you to love him while doing so.
I honestly wish I could give you a cheat sheet for this book lol! But that would take away from your enjoyment, so all I can say is pay very close attention to everything that happens in this book!
Does that help? No? I didn't think it would! *grins*
Now apart from the fact that Claire is a college professor, she's also a psychologist... It's a completely different dynamic, like I said! I'd tell you to forget about Her Master's Courtesan when you started reading this book, but no don't do that but don't expect a repeat performance. Claire and Hollands's relationship was so different to what you'd expect of a captive and her captor... I can't explain it.
In the comfort I felt being held by him. I realized right then that I hadn't been careful. I'd allowed myself to forget his part in this. I'd let down my guard and found peace in a man who'd hurt me.
How do you review a book like this without spoiling?
You know what that's all you're gonna get from me, because quite honestly I have no idea what to say aside from. 1. If you read Her Master's Courtesan, then you have to read this book. 2. If you haven't read this series then get to it! 3. If you're a lover of great writing and an amazing plot that keeps you guessing right till the end then read this series!
But.
4.Do proceed with caution. If you've heard people talk about how dark Lily White's work is, believe the hype. The awesomeness is pretty potent with this one!

"If our actions in grief define us, Jask, we're all f*cked. No one reacts rationally to loss."
Angst. Forbidden love. Betrayal. Action. This is what I got when I read Blood Torn. Unlike it's predecessors, Blood Torn focused more on world building and bringing together the Blackthorn Saga. Don't get me wrong, this was very much Jask and Sophia's story, but a lot was brought forward. Book 2, Blood Roses left us with an open ending, there were loose ties, which are addressed in Blood Torn.
Characters Sophia: Sophia is a very strong female lead, she's independent and refuses to bow down to any man let alone a vampire. I'd be lying if I told you she was easy to like because she wasn't LOL! She was infuriating, she was prejudiced, and she was unwavering when it came to her beliefs. To date, she is probably the most headstrong heroine I had ever read about. But like everything else, there is more to her story. Her past and experiences helped her build a huge barrier, so she wouldn't have to get hurt...
Her relationship with Jask was a constant tug of war, and with two strong leads, the angst was palpable but so was the sexual tension.
He stepped up to her. "Because you're petulant, irritating, hard to handle, impulsive, naive. All of the above - and still I want to be with you. Because no one else makes me feel more like myself. No one makes me feel more alive."
Jask: Jask is the leader of his pack, he was strong, ruthless and would do anything for the survival of his pack. But he was also a man with secrets, painful secrets from his past that hindered him from falling in love and being happy. Did I mention the angst in this book? He's determined to use Sophia, she will help him prevent his pack from dying whether or not she want's to.
He's unwilling to venture into any type of relationship with another of his kind, let alone a weak and obstinate human.
Analysis: This book was intense, the first half is filled with plenty of information about Blackthorn. Immaculate world building, I see this dystopian civilisation, but at times I did feel overwhelmed. I do feel like some of the information could have been introduced in previous book to prevent this.
The second half read like a dream, fast paced, action and exciting revelations! I love reading books with a dark and creepy atmosphere, and this series fits the bill! With the teaser at the end of the book, I can't wait to read Blood Deep! The author brings a fresh take on otherworld beings!
Okay so this was my general expression while reading Blood Roses! Personally I think this one was way better than the first book! Again heavily[image]
Okay so this was my general expression while reading Blood Roses! Personally I think this one was way better than the first book! Again heavily plot based, with steamy and sensual sex scenes!

Leila is a witch, she's not a very powerful one though, she's always got her nose in a book learning about some or other spell but she never actually uses these spells. Until one day she gets a call from her sister, she's been taken by a group of vampires, in Blackthorn. Okay so from here on out it's plot twist after plot twist. Revelation after revelation, and quite frankly I was never bored. Caleb was cold, harsh and distant at first but when he realised how much he wanted Leila he was quite the dog the with the bone!
All she could see was Tay writhing in agony - writhing in agony from her blood. Blood that Caleb injected in him knowing exactly what it would do. Caleb who had killed one of his own with such cruel ease. He was a monster. And now she was at his mercy.
The story is based around a prophecy, a prophecy that Leila and Caleb are a part of. But fulfilling this prophecy will mean the loss of their connection, which is ironic since this prophecy is only possible because of their connection. I won't go into further detail because that would give away the story!
He licked her blood from his lips. "I'll take you on a bed of roses, if that's what you want." "Thorns intact? Prepared to bleed with me, are you? "Maybe a drop or two..."
This book was the perfect blend of the paranormal, mystery, romance and suspense! I couldn't put it down! Now for Jask Tao's book, he's a werewolf shifter and I just cannot wait!!!...more

Kane Malloy is infamous, known to be twisted and cruel, he hates Lycans and humans alike. When Caitlin confronts him in a bar, she realises she bitten off more than she can chew. Kane is predatory and 100% alpha male, that night the nearly kidnaps her with her unit only a few meters away! That doesn't stop him though, Kane needs Caitlin for something and he's determined to get her, and Caitlin only realises the extent of what he's capable of, once she's handcuffed to his bed!
"Is that why you're arrogant enough to think you can get my soul> Because you think I fancy you? "I didn't for sure. But I do now." Caitlin exhaled curtly. "You're unbelievable." "Say yes next time I've got you on your back and you'll find out just how unbelievable.
Analysis Blood Shadows, is a heavily plot based story, there are so many plot twists, so many secrets unraveled that I doubt anyone could get bored while reading this book! The sexual tension was palpable, the sex scenes sensual and very hot! Kane is 100% alpha male and Caitlin gives him a run for his money! I found the first 30% overly descriptive and rather slow, which is why I gave a rating of 4-4.5 Stars. But the story definitely picked up after that! I love it when I find a new author and series, it's rare that I find a story that caters to my particular tastes so accurately!

Before I start my review I'm not one to write long lengthy reviews, I tend to give a short sometimes vague synopsis of the book and a paragraph or two with my thoughts. I'm not saying this is going to be a short novella, but it will be more detailed than my normal kind of review.
I know this is annoying, but I have to say it. This review is made up of my thoughts and preferences, anything that I disliked or liked was because of my own reader preferences, by saying I liked or disliked something I speak for myself and not other readers
My Review
I think every reader out there has a standard list of things they look for in a book. When you're looking for that next great read, you normally have an idea of what you'd like to read. Be it an erotica, romance etc, if you're an avid reader of dark erotica/fiction it's difficult to say what exactly what you want. Dark reads are meant to test your limits, shock you and ultimately entertain a reader. Personally when I read a book I need to connect with the writing and the characters. I generally don't like to read books written in spoken word, I like imagery, I enjoy books that make me feel the emotion with words. Okay, this is getting long winded.
Here's the thing, The Good Girl has a lot of potential. But the huge stumbling block was the heroine, Eleni. I'm not slut shaming, but she was abrasive and at times vulgar. I swear like a sailor myself but Eleni was at times "too much". I couldn't get around the fact that she couldn't speak without using the word "fuck". Again this is a personal preference. So Eleni is an Art Therapy student, she grew up in a harsh environment. Her parents neglected her and where physically and verbally abusive, which turned her into a broken adult. She's an alcoholic and she hooks up with a different man almost every night.
I'm not gonna tear Eleni's character apart but I do feel like I needed more character development. I feel like I would have been able to connect with her a lot more if I'd understood her more, because I never connected with Eleni, I never understood why she did somethings. Until about 65%.
Then we have Gabriel, his POV was dark, thrilling and I really felt like I was in the mind of a sociopath. He's the baddy right? I should hate him, and feel bad for the heroine? Because I couldn't connect with Eleni, not once did I feel bad for her. I could appreciate the her predicament, and I did realise that she was in a bad situation but did I feel bad for her? No. Why? Because I didn't like her.
Gabriel, was perfectly scary, seductive and a complete mind fuck. He was brutal in his punishments, but then he'd turn around and act caring and tender. *sighs*
Not sure if this is a spoiler, but you've been warned. There's a scene where Gabriel grabs Eleni's wrists, and he hears the crack of bones. My question? Did he in fact break her wrist, if he didn't he definitely sprained them. But he he proceeds to string her up with chains, she cries out in pain. This really bothered me, were her wrists broken or not? This wasn't the only time Eleni had injuries where she would have needed medical attention but this was the one that bothered me the most. Because there is no way someone can have sex and hold herself up, with broken wrists(or cracked ribs)The pain would be so bad you'd pass out.
I also had trouble with how time had progressed while reading this book. I had no idea if it was day or night or even the next day. It honestly all fact like one extremely long night. And then there was the part when Gabriel moved Eleni from a room to a cage, she just started talking about the cage, and I was completely confused because I hadn't read the scene where she'd actually been moved. I was very confused at this point.
I've pointed out a lot of what I didn't like but I actually did enjoy some parts of this book: mainly Gabriel's POV and roughly the last half of this book. The epilogue was excellent, Gabriel's mind kind of fracture and we got to see the real him and I really felt for him (yes, I did) I may have felt a slight connection with Eleni too.
(view spoiler)[What I didn't enjoy was the pregnancy, I don't like it when this happens in a book. I just don't get it. I don't understand why the character never sees it coming. Again personal preference. (hide spoiler)]

You think that human screams have never echoed within these walls before? No help is coming, Silent one. N o help will ever come."
19 year old Evie, is living in a world terrorised by vampires, living is a daily struggle. All she's ever known is hunger and the oppression meted out by the vampires. When she and a group of other youth's from her village are given a chance to fight back, she isn't one to look a gift horse in the mouth.
But when push comes to shove, and she and her friends finally have the confrontation they've been looking for. They realise just how out of depth they are. No one told them how strong and cunning the vampires would be, how seductive they are.
Evie kept under lock and key by Lord Adram, a powerful and sadistic vampire. He amuses himself by making her life a misery, until he reveals that he does in fact have a purpose for keeping her (besides making her miserable that is) He has a much sinister and dangerous future planned for her...
What is this place?" I ask him hoarsely. He doesn't answer, but in a way, I already have one. This is the place where hope comes to die.
Analysis I really enjoyed Bleeds My Desire, Nenia is great at building a dark and creepy environment. I don't think I've ever mentioned this before but I really enjoy reading about a heroine having to survive oppression, or deal with matters of class even if it is a PNR/fantasy lol! Evie was obstinate to a fault, luckily for her this amused Adram, but I think had it been any other vampire she would have found herself lying in a pool of her own blood.
Don't get me wrong this was quite refreshing, since I prefer the heroines in the books I read to be docile lol! Another thing that was a bit of a shocker for me was that this is a bit of a triangle, now if you didn't no this I hate triangle! But I have to say this was sneakily done, I found myself loving both male characters, I mean yes I read the blurb but I wasn't expecting my reaction. Now I'll be honest and say that I am rooting for a particular sadistic vampire, but I'd also like to see his nemesis lose control for once. He seemed so in control of his actions, and so untouchable that I can't wait to see when something breaks through his calm demeanor.
Okay so let me just stress how difficult it was for me to wrap my mind around this book. I'm not sure how much to say as I don[image]
4 Original Stars!
Okay so let me just stress how difficult it was for me to wrap my mind around this book. I'm not sure how much to say as I don't want to spoil for anyone, but I will say this. Hero is New Rhone's saviour with the rising crime in the city, and the looming threat that is the cartel, Hero seems to be the towns only salvation. Law enforcement sees him as an annoyance, a vigilante hell bent on showing them up. The public idolises him, he does what Law enforcement has failed to do time and time again. He seeks out villains and vagrants and doles out his own personal brand of punishment.
My bare hands have served me well so far. They are my weapons. My skin my shield, my strength, my lifeline, and Cataline, my motivation
Cataline is a nobody, she's quiet, always in the background. She doesn't date, she's saving herself for the right guy, she worships Hero and covets Calvin her boss. Both these men elude her, but she still daydreams. Until one day she's taken and when she discovers her captor's identity all her dreams and hopes are bashed.
"If you're thinking of flying, Sparrow, know that I will catch you. There is no escape. Fly until your wings fall off, or until there is no sky, but I will always find you."
And that's about all you're gonna get from me about this book!
Analysis Okay you can't tell me you've never imagined Superman or Batman was for real and that he'd sweep you away and you'd live happily ever after! You haven't??? Well now you my secret!
I've actually never thought to read a book like this, most books with this type of theme are usually lacking in the romance and erotica part. What I mean to say is, they're normally written for men by men... So, here's why I gave this book 4 stars, someone actually wrote a book like this for women! Thank you! Here's why I hesitated to give it a 4, the lack of detail. I won't say exactly what, but I needed more info, the what, why, where and how. Look the book engaged me, shocked me at times. The sex was hot and sometimes uncomfortable to read.
And now for my favourite question... Was it dark? [image]
Yes, in a taboo kind of way, I really don't think there was any non-con maybe some reluctance but all scenes were ultimately enjoyed by both parties involved lol. I think it was the actual sex scenes that were taboo, one in particular that I won't mention. There was also a healthy does of dirty talk. The word that comes to mind when I think of this book is: Questionble. I know it makes no sense, but there you are.
I read it, I was never bored, I loved the characters, although I wanted to kill Cataline at times. But what more do you need from a book???

I was anxious, I was highly aroused. And I was riveted! For such a short novella, I was surprised to find that characters where complex and were not one dimensional.
You won't no who to root for, all the characters have redeeming qualities. Well except one...
The author was bold, wrote shocking scenes that make the story more believable are something I love. I think this series will have them in spades.
Note from Author: Like a television series, My Masters' Nightmare is broken up into seasons and episodes. A new episode will be published every 3 weeks until a season has ended. There will be fifteen episodes per season.

A story about the struggle between good and evil, but sometime the both forces live inside us. A mans struggle to stay good. And a woman, once weak strengthened by her weakness.
Final Thoughts
This book was deliciously dark, the author was bold and did not shy away from a subject we might find too dark. The characters were lewd, depraved and blood thirsty, but because of that the story was easy to believe. The ending wasn't pretty, no pink bows here to make your heart flutter, it was dark it was gritty and it suited the entire story.
This one is definitely for the dark romance lovers, the hero is not glossed over, he is a man who is flawed. I liked the heroine, she found strength in surrender and did it with dignity! Kicking and screaming isn't always the smartest thing to do, although we'd love to think so.
I approve :)
