So here's the thing D's villains are so despicable scum of the earth beings that I want them to have deaths that will put Game of Thrones to shame BUT usually (except that one time in Oliver Twist), I am left unsatisfied with the villains' deaths. But what a gathering of characters. Such a delightful book! ...more

IThis one was my least favourite of all of his Dickens' work that I have read so far. I think D started so many threads that it became sort of messy. I loved reading about a lot of characters but they just disappeared for the longest times from the narrative (like hello Jo Willet?). And it took its sweet time to get where it was going. Although there were SO many interesting things in this book, it felt choppy at times. At the starting of the book I was ready to give this book 5 stars. In the middle of this book, I was ready to give this book 3.5 stars. Leo Tolstoy is an exceptional writer, how he flips from person to person, opinion to opinion is a phenomenal talent. Now what took that .5 star from this book; (view spoiler)[ 1.Anna. Yes,her. I was so sure that she will be my favourite character but in the middle of this book, I was INFURIATED by her. In caps. [Just wanted to drop here and say, that the scene where Anna is in the coach and going through a mental breakdown was so well written. It was God tier good. (Go Leo!)] 2.How Tolstoy goes from talking about someone's feelings to farming or industries in a single sentence was tiring to read. 3.My boy Levin was so confused about what he had to do with his life, the moment I started feeling excited for him, Tolstoy changed the entire course of his life. Maybe it was bothering to me only, but yeah. (hide spoiler)] Also,I loved Alexei Alexandrovitch.
reread// 5 glowing beautiful stars. After my more deeper and thorough reading of the book, I realised that the first time I was reading this book, it was for plot rather than going to the depth that this book deserves but now it surprised me over how much more I enjoyed it and how much it pulled me in this time around. Still adamant on my love for Alexei Alexandrovitch and ofcourse, Levin....more
