A paid, summer hands-on learning experience at JAX for high school students
Mouse models produced at JAX are shipped to biomedical researchers all over the world who are working to cure and treat diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s Disease, to name a few. As a JAX Animal Care Apprentice, you will get the opportunity to contribute to the important work being done at JAX and the betterment of human health. This three-part, 9-week, hands-on experience will expose you to the people and the processes that go into making a mouse model and will prepare you for a career at JAX and beyond!
Students enrolled in a Maine high school who are currently in their junior year (11th grade)
Students who are at least 16 years old by the end of the school year
Students who have a strong work ethic, enjoy hands-on activities and want to be a part of a successful team
Applications due March 31
Paid pre-apprenticeship: $19.25 per hour
Program duration: 9 weeks during the summer
Typical workday: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Two career tracks: Operations and Animal Care
Work locations: JAX Ellsworth and Bar Harbor campuses
Lunch subsidy: $7 per day toward food
